The uncertainty that has trailed the preparation for the conduct of the Anambra Gubernatorial poll in November, following calls for a boycott by the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, may have been erased.
This followed a reported promise by the Leader of IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, to withdraw the threat to stop the conduct of the November 18 Governorship election.
The decision was said to have been reached during a meeting between the Ala-Igbo International Foundation and the Leader of IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, in Owerri, the Imo State capital.
Speaking on Friday, Leader of the foundation, Uzodinma Nwala, said: “After much deliberation, IPOB has assured us that it won’t disrupt the November 18 Governorship election.
“We have jointly told people who are eligible to vote, to go out and exercise their franchise without fear of molestation.”
Kanu at the meeting, also said that his group is not violent, and that they are law abiding citizens of the society.
He added that he had to honour the invitation, for the respect he has for Igbo elders.
“I came because of my respect for elders. IPOB is not a violent group. We are law-abiding citizens of the society. What we reached at here today, will guide us in the issue of Anambra election. I will go and meet with the leadership of IPOB”, he said.
It is not clear if Kanu’s shift in position also marks a beginning of a change in tactics towards his agitation for a separate State of Biafra.
